I am a Consultant Hand and Plastic Surgeon based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. I trained in plastic surgery in Manchester, Yorkshire and the North East before undertaking a Hand Surgery TIG Fellowship in Newcastle. A further Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship in Sydney, Australia completed my training. During this time I obtained the Diploma In Hand Surgery (British Society for Surgery of the Hand). My areas of interest include the management of hand injuries, Dupuytren’s disease, peripheral nerve surgery and upper limb spasticity.
I obtained a PhD from the University of Bradford where my research looked into the effects of hormones and the hair follicle on wound healing. My research interests now relate to hand surgery, I am the principal investigator in my unit for a number of national trials and collaborate with scientists at Newcastle University.
I am have an interest in education and training having been Training Programme Director for Plastic Surgery in the North East of England, a member of the plastic surgery surgical advisory committee and an examiner for the Plastic Surgery FRCS (Plast) exam. I am the BAPRAS representative on the FRCS exam board.
