Vacancy: JPRAS Open - Editor for 2023-2025

JPRAS-Open is a gold open access, online only, fee-for-publication journal that shares the same direction as JPRAS. It seeks to disseminate high-quality clinical and translational scientific research in order to enhance international standards of care in Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. The Journal seeks to increase its activities, profile, and impact. It has been indexed by PMC and an application has been made for an Impact Factor.

We are looking for a new Editor, with relevant skills and background, who can develop the title into a dynamic multiplatform entity to which authors will actively choose to submit high quality scientific and clinical manuscripts, case reports, short reports, digital imaging catalogues / operative demonstrations, and educational material. The Editor will work within the existing Editorial structure of JPRAS to the mutual benefit of both Journals. The Editor will manage submissions through the peer-review process, develop an educational portfolio, and recruit additional submissions and reviewers as appropriate.

The Editor must possess the following:

  • Consultant Plastic Surgeon
  • Relevant clinical/translational research, and/or postgraduate education skills
  • Sound editorial judgement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Demonstrate equality and diversity training is up to date
  • Institutional support for their involvement and for the time required to deliver the role
  • An awareness of current developments within the Specialty, and the wider publishing world

This role would suit an enthusiastic clinician or academic surgeon who has demonstrable involvement in post-graduate education, research and the use of web-based platforms and journal databases.

Please note the Editor must commit to delivering services for a number of hours each week; and to attend meetings of JPRAS Committee of Management Meetings twice per year and other infrequent meetings and conferences. In light of this, a modest stipend is granted to the successful candidate equivalent to 1PA.
