New cosmetic surgery certification scheme launches today
New cosmetic surgery certification scheme launches today

January 2017
On 12th January 2016, The Royal College of Surgeons of England launched a new system of certification, aiming to make the cosmetic surgery industry safer for patients and to enhance the reputation of the profession.
The new certification system will help patients to identify a surgeon with the appropriate training and experience to perform specific procedures.
As cosmetic surgery is not a formally defined surgical specialty, historically there haven't been common standards available to the surgeons who perform it, but the new system will address this and allow those seeking treatment to distinguish the highly qualified, experienced individuals from those who are working without the necessary specialist training.
BAPRAS welcomes the introduction of the certification. Our Immediate Past President Mr Nigel Mercer, is within the first group of people that have trained to be an assessor for the scheme.
Surgeons looking to apply for certification can do so through the Royal College of Surgeons of England website
here
Members of the public searching for a suitable surgeon should be able to do so later in the year.
