Industrial action - Message from BAPRAS President
Industrial action - Message from BAPRAS President

Dear Member
The Federation of Surgical Specialist Associations (FSSA) has agreed to support our trainee surgeons in their action. As a consequence, if individual consultants, who do not support the industrial action, wish to express their views I ask that they do so to me in writing or by calling me and not to their junior staff.
My own list will go ahead on Dec 16th and I will cover all the roles my junior staff would have undertaken to ensure the patients are not harmed or disadvantaged in any way. I hope that you feel able to do the same with your commitments on the 1st, 8th and 16th so long as you feel your patients' safety is not being compromised.
The GMC have written to the BMA explaining what they expect of the juniors in this situation and I advise our juniors to follow that advice to the letter in order not to put their registration in danger.
Hopefully, a compromise will be reached and I have encouraged that to happen at the highest levels in the DoH and in the Government in the last week. We must all hope it does not come to pass.
Yours most sincerely
Mr Nigel Mercer FRCS
President, 2015-2016
