Funding for balancing surgery following mastectomy axed in Somerset

Following the news that Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group are no longer funding surgery to correct breast asymmetry following mastectomy, BAPRAS, the Association of Breast Surgeons and Breast Cancer Care have come together to support a woman’s right to have the option of balancing breast surgery.
This can be a very important part of a woman’s emotional and psychological recovery after breast cancer surgery. It is not cosmetic surgery.
ABS, BAPRAS and Breast Cancer Care are working together to produce guidelines for health commissioners to allow them to make well-informed funding decisions.
