BAPRAS surgeons streamline breast reconstruction to increase efficiency and benefit patients

Presenting at our Winter Scientific Meeting, surgeons from Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford and the Royal Free in London will explain how they have improved the efficiency of free flap breast reconstruction surgery, resulting in cost benefits to hospitals and improved outcomes for patients.
The presentation concentrates on how the surgeons have refined their surgical technique and overall approach, reducing the traditional eight hour operation to around two hours, resulting in considerable cost savings for a hospital and a shorter recovery period for patients.
The changes contributing to the reduced operation time include imaging used ahead of the actual surgery, strategically positioning team members around the patient, the use of fine microsurgical instruments during dissection and continually preparing for the next stages of a process by utilising staff that are not operating.
