BAPRAS President responds following ban of cosmetic surgery advert

We need to see an end to the trivialisation around cosmetic surgery and the implication that it can provide ‘quick-fix’ solutions to improving individual wellbeing and quality of life, or that everyone should be striving to achieve the ‘perfect’ image.
BAPRAS advises that any surgical procedure is properly considered by the patient and the surgeon, with impartial advice readily available. This is vital in helping to develop a more consistent and healthy perception of body image.
BAPRAS is particularly concerned by any cosmetic surgery advertising that young people are exposed to, as they may be particularly influenced by messages which affirm their own insecurities or negative feelings about their appearance.
