Dan Saleh graduated from Leeds medical school in 2005 and was appointed as a consultant in Newcastle in 2015. During his basic surgical training an inspiring SHO job in Bradford Royal infirmary made him jump ship from Orthopaedics to pursue a career in plastic and reconstructive surgery. While working as registrar in Cape Town he got a national training number (NTN) in Yorkshire and did sub-specialty training in Chelmsford, Vienna and Brisbane.
His senior fellow post at the Princess Alexandra Hospital Brisbane largely involved adult oncology and has shaped his consultant career as a core member of the Northern Head and Neck, Soft tissue and Bone tumour units and skin cancer teams in Newcastle hospitals. He also provides a tertiary service covering the North of England and beyond for complex facial tumour management and adult skull base reconstruction. His particular focus is adult Head Neck and facial oncology, and his research is focused on integrating digital health solutions for navigational surgery, patient reported outcomes in surgical oncology and the development of educational tools for cosmetic surgery patients.
Dan is a keen educator and has developed a plastic surgery teaching fellow post for his unit and contributes as faculty for national and international courses in microsurgery. He has also built a reputation for international collaboration and holds an academic post at Queensland University Medical School and is an international educator for the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgeons.
