BAPRAS Mentorship Scheme

As part of BAPRAS’ commitment to furthering opportunities for professional development, BAPRAS is delighted to continue its members’ mentoring scheme.

Eligibility

The scheme is currently open to:

  • full members in their first three years of practice
  • trainee members who are approaching their last 2 years of training

How it works

Mentors - must have been practicing for at least 10 years.
Mentors can request mentees either in their region or further afield. You can also select the number of individuals that you are willing to mentor.

Mentors must undertake a brief induction meeting (further dates for 2024 will be released in due course).

Once your induction meeting has taken place, your details will be included on a list that is sent to any mentees looking for a mentor. Mentees can request a choice of up to two mentors, which mentors can then make a selection from.

Don’t meet the criteria?

We’ll be extending the scheme to involve more participants in time, and will communicate this with members in due course.

Mentees will be sent a list of mentors from which you can select up to two potential mentors

After selection

Once a mentor has confirmed a link to be made with a mentee, you’ll both be asked to have an initial chat (this can be online) to ensure that both parties are willing to enter into the mentoring relationship, and to agree between you, for example, frequency of meetings (and whether these would follow a formal pattern, methods of contact etc. Mentors/mentees will be encouraged to meet at BAPRAS meetings over the course of the year).

Relationships will remain in place for a year, but if mutually agreed, could be extended further.  We will undertake a period of review at the end of the year to make sure our scheme is benefitting everyone.
