BAPRAS Congress 2023 is just around the corner! Please find below some useful information in preparation for the event.

 

Bring your re-usable drinking container

Due to the scale of our event, the venue cannot supply reusable cups and glassware. In our commitment to sustainability and waste reduction, we urge attendees to bring their reusable water bottles and coffee cups.
  


Travelling to the venue

The venue is Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, Bottle Bank, Gateshead NE8 2AR

By train
The hotel is less than 15 minutes' walk from Newcastle train station.

By plane
Newcastle airport is 8 miles from the hotel.

By car
Limited parking is available on site, at an additional cost of £14 per day.
  


Registration opening times

On arrival, please go to the registration desk to collect your badge.
The registration desk will be open throughout the three days of the event at the following times:

Wednesday, 29 November: 09:00 - 17:30
Thursday, 30 November: 08:30 - 17:00
Friday, 1 December: 08:30 - 14:00

An excellent opportunity for trainees to learn from experts, during hands on sessions. If you did not register online using the spreadsheet for this, please get in touch with one of the team at the registration desk.

Tendon Repair workshop
Thursday, 13:00 - 14:15 - Meeting Room 6 - Drop in

This is a free workshop for participants to perform tendon turnovers using animal tendons and to test the strength of the repairs afterwards.
To participate, show up on the day to Meeting Room 6.
Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. 
 


Networking and social events

On Wednesday - Deanery Challenge & fellowship networking drinks
Join us on Wednesday at 17:30 for the inaugural BAPRAS and PLASTA ‘Deanery Challenge’ competition. This will be followed by drinks in the foyer, with opportunity for trainees looking at fellowship options to meet up with fellowship leads from around the UK.

On Thursday - The BAPRAS Association Dinner
The social event is taking place at the venue and  will begin with drinks at 19:00, followed by the call for dinner at 19:45 and dancing at 21:30. The evening is scheduled to conclude at midnight.

PolyNovo UK Ltd - NovoSorb Biodegradable Matrix (BTM): Advanced use in plastic surgery
Wednesday, 13:45 - 14:30

Speaker: Mr Chris Lewis, Consultant Burn, Laser and Reconstructive Surgeon at the Northern Regional Burn Centre based at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary

Since the introduction of Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix (BTM) in a clinical trial in 2015, Mr Lewis has gained a vast experience in its use and will share his observations and top tips to improve outcomes using NovoSorb BTM.

The symposium will deliver an overview of a broad range of case examples including complex cases as well as mass trauma cases. As an early adopter from his time in Australia, Mr Lewis has expanded his use of NovoSorb BTM across a range of applications and refined the protocols for its use.

 

Alexion - Surgical Input to the Management of Neurofibromatosis Type 1

Speakers: Mr Chris Duff, Mr Anant Tambe , Mr Simon Eccles

Alexion's expert panel of speakers will present on the relevance of NF1 to the surgical arena.

The symposium will deliver an overview of the condition and its management in the UK and will delve into a selection of cases, the likes of which you may encounter during your surgical career. The panel includes a variety of surgeons with expertise in managing the intervention decisions and surgical aspects of NF1, through their work with the national multi-disciplinary teams based in London and Manchester.
