Pump Priming Funds

Listed below are the pump priming funds available from BAPRAS

BAPRAS Pump Priming Fund for Clinical Trials

The BAPRAS Research Committee administers the BAPRAS Pump Priming Fund for Clinical Trials.
It aims to make a single award of up to £20K each year. Applications for joint funding with other organisations are encouraged.

Applicants should NOT apply for multiple BAPRAS funding streams in the same round.

Eligibility

The lead applicant must be a consultant plastic surgeon working in the United Kingdom.

Nature of awards

It is intended that the award will support early feasibility work for a proposed clinical trial. This would enable the subsequent application for funding from the NIHR or other large grant awarding bodies.

The BAPRAS Delphi and BSSH JLA reports should be considered when developing a research question. The Reconstructive Surgery Trials Network can provide advice on framing a research question and what is needed during the early stage work up of an idea.

Funding may be used for the following:

  • Small items of equipment, e.g. outcome measurement device
  • Consumables e.g. stationary, patient and public involvement materials
  • Technical assistance e.g. trials manager time
  • Methodological support e.g. statistician

The funds
cannot be used for the personal salaries of the applicants.
The funding is for new projects, and is not to support projects that are already running.

Applicants will be asked to provide an outline of how they will spend the award but may be allowed subsequently to change their plans, subject to approval from the BAPRAS Research Committee.

Financial arrangements

The University or NHS Trust sponsoring the study will need to invoice BAPRAS for the funding following the award.

Presentations and publications

The BAPRAS research award should be acknowledged at all presentations and in publications. From time to time the award holder may be asked to make presentations on behalf of the BAPRAS. The ‘funded by BAPRAS logo’ should be used on material and presentations relating to the project.
