Introduction and application form for the new BAPRAS Overseas Fellowship

BAPRAS AND THE DEVELOPING WORLD

British plastic Surgery has a long tradition of links with the developing world.  This tradition has been continued through the Overseas & Training Committee by:

- Funding short visits for surgeons to learn of new techniques in the UK
- Supporting surgeons in countries as diverse as Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Uganda
- Visits by BAPRAS members to many of these and other countries to participate in meetings and  to work with colleagues
- Conducting workshops in countries with limited plastic surgical infrastructure
- Encouraging “twinning” of plastic surgery units in the UK with counterparts in less privileged parts of the world

Overseas Fellowship

The British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons has established a number of Fellowships to assist experienced plastic surgeons from overseas to spend a period of 1 to 3 months gaining further experience in the UK.

Each selected fellow will receive:

- A return economy class airfare from their country of residence to the UK
- Basic accommodation costs (in hospital accommodation if available)
- Subsistence of £100 per week

The maximum value of each fellowship will be £3,500.

These fellowships are not intended to be “hands-on”, but to provide an opportunity to see new techniques, and to experience the way clinical problems are managed in the UK. Appropriate honorary or observer status will be arranged in the hospital(s) to which they are attached.

Applicants are asked fill in the following application form, including a 300 word summary of their reasons for wishing to come to the UK, to attach a curriculum vitae and to give the name of 2 referees, including 1 likely to be known in the UK.

The closing date for applications for fellowships to be commenced before 1st April 2009 is 15th August 2008.
